Match : England Premier League
Manchester City and Manchester United will confront each other in the Saturday’s derby that is the final Premier League match between the two this season and the stakes have never been higher.Manchester City and United have played three times this season, once in the Premier League and twice in the League Cup.
The last Premier league match between these two team result in a 4-3 win to Manchester United at Old Trafford back in September. At the time Manchester City did not have the flow in their game because their squads were quite new . The defeat was shameful for City because of the lack of discipline and somewhat naive that helped Man United to score too many easy goals. Under the guideline of manager Roberto Mancini since then the City squads has become more disciplined and they managed to actually beat Manchester United 2-1 in the Carling Cup before loosing 3-1 in the second semifinal at Old Trafford.
Rooney’s injury and Effect on United’s performances
Manchester United’s number of goal is intensely lessened without 34 goal earned by striker Wayne Rooney .The United faithful goal maker, Rooney hasn’t seen much of the pitch in recent matches.
He suffered a sprained ankle last month in United’s 2-1 Champions League loss to Bayern in Munich. The sprain caused him to miss United’s 1-2 loss to Chelsea at Old Trafford a few days later. Rushed back into service for the second Champions League match with Bayern, Rooney clearly wasn’t ready and added little to United’s insufficient 3-2 win. He subsequently sat out the 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers last weekend.
Strikers of City in good form
Sir Alex’s taunt notwithstanding, Manchester City have proven this season that they can competewith the big boys in the league.
And with three wins on the trot--four from their last five matches--the Citizens are on a good run of form indeed. No further evidence of this is necessary than their goal tally in these recent matches. For: 17; against: 4.
Quotes of Teams :
Roberto Mancini hopes Wayne Rooney plays in the derby: "He will be a danger, of course, but United have many fine players in their team - but we have beaten them once at home already and can do it again. I think it is best if both teams are full strength and then the side who takes the three points can truly say the best team won and there is no reason that cannot be us."
Rio Ferdinand explains Carlos Tevez did not overexert himself in training at United: ''Carlos is an interesting character. When he was at United, he saved all his energy for the games - he didn't really go over the top at training. He worked hard in the gym - he was a professional in that sense - but everything he did was geared towards the match at the weekend."
